Japanese Laptop Maker Vaio to Focus on Smartphone Market
Vaio was once the icon of Sony’s laptops. They have sold numerous pieces to the market with the same brand name. Customers all around the world enjoyed the magic of this combo for a long time. All good things must come to an end and it happened. Earlier this year Sony has sold most of the it’s share on Vaio to a private equity firm called Japanese Industrial Partners(JIP) and only retained 5% of it. Thus famous partnership came to an End. People still miss the magic of this combination. Now there is a hint about the return of Vaio brand to the smartphone market. This is a great opportunity to see both Sony and Vaio in different side for the competition. According to the reliable sources, Vaio is about to focus on smartphone development and their initial products will be released on their home market that is Japan. Even though Sony own the 5% in their old Vaio a threat is there for their prestigious Xperia models.
Upcoming Viao smartphones will be based on the latest Android operating system version with a 5-inch display. We can expect a mid-ranged device with some decent configuration as the entry model is very important for a new brand. There is a huge chance of introduction of model at the Consumer Electronic Show(CES) to be held at Las Vegas this month. It is almost sure that Sony may unveil few flagship models there at CES and the real competition will start from there. Not a single clue about the price range is available. But Vaio’s policy of high quality with reasonable price is definitely going to implement soon.
Fascinating news is the partnership of Vaio with the local mobile Virtual Network Operator, Japan Communication. Vaio is too vigilant to keep their production cost low and they have contracted out the assembling and all. Not only Sony but also qualified competitors like Fujitsu, Samsung etc. are hopeful to achieve a better market share in Japanese market and thus it won’t be too easy for Vaio to hang in there.
If Viao can convert their quality on to their smartphones then it is possible. Non Sony Vaio is going to be a heavy tag for them. Rather than manufacturing a flagship model a mid-ranged model is always the safest choice and they have chosen it. Now they have to keep their brand name alive and clear with some brilliant models and the whole world expects it.
