Lenovo announces new android desktop – Lenovo N308

Home » Lenovo announces new android desktop – Lenovo N308

It seems there is no end to heartaches felt by Microsoft

After Google’s Chromebook, it is now Lenovo’s turn. Lenovo introduced this week to the world, a series of newly developed desktop PCs at the ongoing CES. One of the desktop models, Lenovo N308, has been the cause of all the anxiety. This all-in-one new machine is different as it runs on an Android operating system and not Windows.

The new technology is bound to create some new interest as it starts to erase the age old concept that Androids are just for portable devices. The model which will become available in the market in February, runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 and comes with a 19.5-inch touch screen with twisted nematic . Lenovo N308 is based on NVIDIA Tegra processor and has 2GB DDR3 RAM. The screen resolution is also an impressive 1600×900 pixels and it contains two touch points. Along with a 500 GB hard drive it also has an Ethernet slot, G-sensor, a webcam, mouse, keyboard, Wi-Fi adapter, card reader with six slots. This PC looks flat from every angle weighs 10.4 pounds and has a battery life of up to three hours.

This system, whose price starts at a reasonable $450, has Google store as well as Amazon application stores preloaded in it.

The latest product marketed by Lenovo, is expected to cause commotion in the PC market and start a new niche for Android operating systems.  The main aim of the company is to place N308 at the center of people who are already making use of the Android OS for varied purposes on their mobiles.

When you consider all the specifications of this model and sum it all up, you will realize that Lenovo N308 is a cheaper version of the Horizon 2, which uses Windows operating system to function and comes in 27-inch screen.

However, what‘s more interesting is the fact that numerous PC companies are trying to align towards Androids. Having seen Google’s Chromebook do well in the market, they believe that Microsoft’s hold on the operating system market can be diminished if android PC’s does well. These manufacturers believe that this supposed change in market trends will help them do more customizations to their products and breath life into a dying market.

There have been rumors going around about Google working closely with various PC makers to start up their own custom android product line.  If Android desktops and laptops can really make a new market, then it will seriously hurt the sales of Windows 8.Although, Android systems won’t have Microsoft Office or similar software features, they will be compensated by various apps for editing and viewing. Gamers will also find that there are many that work on Android platform.

Google seems to be making a play to upend Microsoft from the top of operating system world. The success of Chrome OS PC’s is testament to fact that people are ready to embrace change and Android powered operating systems can make inroads into Microsoft’s domain, then it might just even up the market.
