Drawbacks of Deactivating Sleep Mode

Even though you may be freed from re-entering password to access to device, this method has got some disadvantages too. The most important positive aspect of Chromebook is that its battery lasts long when compared to Windows and Mac gadgets. Chromebooks provides an uninterrupted functioning to upto 13 hours, sometimes more. But if you leave your screen active for the entire day, it may definitely drain your battery. Adding to it, this could eventually affect the lifespan of your device’s battery. Unlike other similar laptops, Chromebook batteries are irremovable. So it is always advisable to activate sleep mode unless and otherwise required.

First Method – The Complicated One

This method of deactivating sleep mode consists of steps like entering certain codes. So before carrying on the procedures you have turn on the Developer Mode in the device. Older devices used to have switch for doing so. But in latest devices and gadgets, the users are required to boot into Recover Mode. This can be done by pressing the shortcut key Esc+Refresh and then press down the Power Button. When you see the dialog, Chrome OS is Missing or Damaged, you have to tap on Ctrl+D and hit the enter key. You have to take enough precautions after activating Developer Mode, since this may erase all your data from the device.

After activating Developer Mode, just get back to the desktop. Now you have to get into Chrome OS Shell by tapping on Ctrl+Alt+T. Now you have to type sudo chromeos-firmwareupdate-mode=todev and press down the Enter Key. This will result in rebooting and you have re-enter Chrome OS Shell, once the device is turned on. After that you have to type Shell and hit Enter Key. Then you have to type cd/usr/share/vboot/bin, inorder to alter the directory. Now you have to type sudo./make_dev_ssd.sh-remove_rootfs_verification-partitions 2.

After that you may receive pop-up asking you to reboot the device. If it is so then continue with the instructions given on the screen. After that you have to re-enter Chrome OS Shell. Now you have to type the following –  mount-o rw,remount/ and hit Enter. Now you have to type echo 0 >/usr/share/power_manager/ use_lid and hit the Enter Key. To the end you have continue with the following commands – restart powerd and restart powerm. Now restart the Chromebook and close the system. Check whether the system stays on. If it is still stays on, then the tweak is successful. If you want to alter these, then you have to deactivate Developer Mode or continue Factory Reset.

Second Method – The Easy One

The previous method is obviously a complicated one with typing certain commands and running them. A lot more easier method is to download a Chrome Web Store App named Keep Awake. This may result in addition of an icon to the right top corner of the browser. With the help of this app, you can easily supersede power controlling options in your device provisionally. Another advantage is that you are not required activate Developer Mode for this.
