Users of every gadget are interested in making updations to their devices. Whenever they perform an update, they usually focus on maintaining or improve the performance level of their device. The users of iOS devices are not at all different from this. Eventhough they are keen on updating their devices, they still focus on enhancing the performance or atleast maintain the present level.
Recently Apple introduced an extensive feature named Low Power Mode, especially for iOS 9. It is designed to provide its users an extra 3 hour battery life along lessening storage of iOS 9 to hardly 1GB from 5GB as in the case of iOS 8. Still many of the iOS users are suffering themselves with the issues of low performance and poor battery life.Usually it is impossible to find out the major problem behind the battery life issues.
This is due to the reason that every user has their own different usage pattern which will be entirely different from that of others. But by modifying the usage pattern of you iOS device can enhance the performance of your device better than before. Here in this article I would like suggest certain measures with the help of which you can improve the performance of your iOS device and also enhance your battery life to couple of hours more.
Deactivate Background App Refresh
Background Application Refresh is actually a beneficial feature. It helps the user to get timely updates and notifications about latest informations regarding software, new applications and so on. But this advantage is coupled with another disadvantage that it drains much of the power of your battery for doing its task. Along with that it reduces the performance level of the gadget also. By turning off this Background App Refresh, you will be able to improve the performance of your device along with saving the life of your power cell. This can be done by following the below given steps.
- Click on Settings>> General >> Background App Refresh.
- By default this feature is set as enabled. You have to disable it by tapping on Off.
By doing so you will not be able to get your applications updated automatically when its designers release certain updates and notifications. After setting it off, you may have to proceed with the updation process manually.
Enable Reduce Motion
Along with iOS 7, Apple introduced more features for background wallpaper. They made it live by adding visual effects like gliding wallpapers. It is actually a visual treat to see something moving on your device screen. It may be something like an aquarium or sky with stars or birds flying. But this kind of motion enabled wallpapers consumes more battery for its functioning and also lessens device performance. So it is better to turn off such effects. this can be done by:
- Tap on Settings >> Accessibility.
- Roll down towards the middle of the list. There you will be able to find the option of Reduce Motion. Turn it On.
Stop Pushing Email
Another feature that drains your battery life is the Push Email. When this feature is enabled it constantly verifies for latest emails and will inform you about it with the help of notifications. Mainly there are two methods of Email Updation for iOS devices. They are Push and Fetch. Fetch allows the users to set certain time periods to look for latest emails, while Push Email constantly checks for such latest emails. By setting the time frame, you will be able to improve the performance of your device along with enhancing its battery life.
- You have to open Settings.
- Then select Mail, Contacts, Calendars >> Fetch New Data.
- You are allowed to set the time frame like Every 15 Minutes, Every 30 Minutes, Hourly and Manually.
Turn-Off Automatic Downloads from App Store
The Automatic Download option in App Store helps in updating a particular application with latest updates automatically. This is done automatically by the device. This feature may without your knowledge consume much of your data along with affecting the performance level and consuming the battery life. You can turn this feature off by following the below given steps.
- You have to select Settings >> App and iTunes Store.
- There you can find the Updates Settings under Automatic Downloads. You have to turn it Off, to stop updating applications in background.
Also another method is to disable Automatic Downloads from consuming the 3G or 4G cellular data.
Turn-On Low Power Mode
As I have mentioned above, Low Power Mode helps to enhance the battery life of the device along with improving the performance level of the device. Once you enable Low Power Mode it will automatically stop the following things:
- Visual motion effects activated on the display screen.
- Automatic email fetching.
- Refreshment of Applications in the background.
- Automatic Updation and Download of certain Application.

iOS 9 has been launched with certain innovative features to reduce battery issues and to enhance performance level. But still if you feel that iOS is not an apt firmware for your device due to its bugs and other problems, you are allowed to step down to iOS 8, which will be a much recommended solution for solving this long and persisting issue.
