We have already seen a handful of huge and bulky and very masculine smartwatches by Samsung, Pebble, LG and others in the markets, but we have not yet had a chance to see a beautiful smartwatch meant to adorn a lady’s wrist. Thanks to Omate for making a dream come true for the ladies. Lutetia is the end result of the efforts put in by a team of women that Omate had engaged specially to design a feminine smartwatch, which may explain why Lutetia watches have nothing masculine in it.
Aesthetically speaking, the Lutetia is a round watch with a beaded stainless steel wristband which comes in three colors, silver, rose gold, and plain old gold. The screen of the watch is of a sturdy curved sapphire- coated crystal glass piece with an always on transflective LCD screen. The beaded wristband makes it very cute and gives a stylish and a very feminine look.
Moving on to the hardware side, Lutetia is powered by a MediaTek’s Aster MT2502 chip and runs on Nucleus RTOS. The processor and OS offer a life cycle of up to a week on a single charge.
Unlike the other smartwatches like Samsung Gear S, Lutetia is not a full-fledged standalone device or a Smartphone replacement. Its main focus is to act as a notification center, that is, it has been designed to be compatible with your handset and will receive notifications from it. The watch can also work like a pedometer and a stopwatch and like other smartwatches it has access to weather information, music controls, and voice control features.
Omate’s CEO, Laurent Le Pen says that instead of challenging with full fledged smart watches like Pebble or Samsung Gear S, the Lutetia will be competing with branded competitors like Calvin Klein, D&G. and Guess.
The reason behind why any of the smartwatches in the markets so far have not been for women is due to its size constraints with the current technology. Omate is also facing similar technological limitations, but it has done a good job in bringing down the size of the watch without compromising on technology, though the size of Lutetia at 40 mm x 12mm falls slightly on the higher end of a lady’s watch.
Pricing and Availability
The Lutetia is available in silver, rose-gold, and gold colors and is expected to ship by the end of December. The smartwatch is priced at $169 and you will be able to preorder it on the Omate website. To further promote sales, Omate offers that the first 1000 units will get unique codes engraved on the back of their Lutetia. So for those ladies who are interested and are thrilled at something different and special in the Lutetia that she wears in her wrist, hurry up and go for it now.
