The famous video and audio chatting service of Google, the ” Google Hangouts” is finally coming out of its shell, by bringing out a Hangouts dedicated stand alone website- the Hangouts . The service which was previously accessible only through an extension in Gmail and Google+ has now been broadened into an standalone website in order for Google to compete with its rival firms. This newly updated service seems to be a revamped version that may in terms in the future show a great challenge to the other messaging services like “Messenger” from Facebook, Kik, Snapchat and the Facebook owned widely used messenger- Whatsapp.
The past few months Google has shown major concern for hangouts and has made a major change in the android and iOS app design, bringing it up to date with Google’s new material design and making it easier to use for the general public. There are already a lot of people with google accounts out there who neglected the service before because of its poor ergonomic design and the poor transition that was done from Google Talk©. But with the current shift of design, it would seem that Google is having a promising future on bringing out the Hangouts with this new design inspiration.
The General body of the webpage is simple enough for the average Joe. There are three large icons on the left hand side of the page, the contacts, conversations and phone calls, each respectively bringing out its menu in a simple transition.
- Upon clicking the contacts pin, we would a list of contacts that can be used to initiate a conversation, to arrange the contacts to preference or to hide a contact from your list.
- The conversation menu helps the users to keep track of old conversations, to initiate new ones through the search bar on top.
- The phone pin allows people to make calls to the contacts in their list and more.
There is another icon with three dot’s, which upon clicking would show you the apps available across android and iOS and also the settings and Help and Feedback menu. All in All this new simple yet effective interface is sure to woo back the customers from the other social media and bring back new life to Google Hangouts.
