Tech Giant Google has left an impact in almost every field related to science and technology and now it is planning to serve people better by enabling the use of robots for surgery. As a major initiative to this venture, it has partnered with pharmaceutical and beauty products brand Johnson and Johnson ( J & J).Robotics is becoming a popular trend and currently the complexities being faced by patients and health care professionals can be solved using proper technology. Although, robotics surgery have been performed earlier, but it lacked a better tool and hence increases the complications.
As per the press release report, Ethicon which is a medical device manufacturing wing of Johnson and Johnson has planned to collaborate an agreement with Google and work on developing ‘surgical robotics technology’ which will be a platform to help patients and health care professionals. Ethicon has been a major company developing devices and technology for assisting in surgery and other health care operations. This company has been in existence for the past 60 years.
The surgical robots will not be fully automated but will assist the surgeons, doctors and nurses to work with greater accuracy and control. This will improve the health care delivery system in the operating room at an effective cost. These surgical robots will have better artificial intelligence than the normal robots being used in different industries. The patients will be lesser under trauma conditions and surgery procedure will be faster. The surgical robots will make use of leading edge robotics technology, imaging and data analytics for bettering the complex tasks.
The expertise of both the companies will be shared in making high quality tools and integrating them into software to make the surgical robots function according to a given algorithm. The real-time image analysis software may allow surgeons to see blood vessels, nerves or edges of tumors more clearly and any irregularities may be spotted well. Google has also plans to work on an independent project named ‘Replicant’ that aims to build large robot surgeons that will be able to perform basic actions during a surgery.
