Sony Xperia Z5
Sony is a much applauded gadget maker in the world with a lot of users following the world class brand. They try to maintain this expectation of their users by introducing the Xperia Z5 series. But when they launched they come with an exciting gifts for the users. The Z5 series was launched with a Premium tag was the first handset loaded with the 4K display ever. Another handset is the Z5 Compact, which is the most power efficient model. But the ordinary Xperia Z5 model seems to be an odd model when compared to the other two. When the specs are considered, Xperia Z5 looks like a perfected Z3 Plus which was released earlier by Sony. Let us go through the features and see whether it is a flagship model or an upgraded Z3 Plus.
Design and Built
The handset measures to 146*72*7.3mm and weighs 154 grams. This makes Xperia Z5 thicker and heavier than Z3+. As mentioned earlier that all the handsets of Z5 series looks alike but the edges of Xperia Z5 is not smoothened as in case of Xperia Z5 Premium. The metal frame covers the gadget which is reinforced by polycarbonate at the edges. The back panel of the gadget is made of matte glass which makes it smooth to touch and gives a classy look. The handset is launched in two classic colours – white and black and also in vibrant skins of yellow and green.
The front cam is placed to the left of Sony’s logo. The earpiece grill is nearly unseen and it also contains the microphone which enables communication. You may not find any controls on the left side of the handset. The SIM card and external SD slots are comfortably placed beneath the flap. This makes it an ideal gadget with water proof facility.On the opposite side, you may find several controls like volume rockers, finger print reader and power button. This positioning made it difficult to identify between volume rocker and the power button. There is an unnoticed shutter button, which allows you to capture images beneath the water. Headphone jack is of 3.5mm and is placed to the top of the device. The noise canceling microphone is placed next to the headphone jack. MicroUSB port is placed to the bottom part of the handset.
Xperia Z5 is equipped with a display that measures 5.2 inched edge to edge integrated with 1080*1920 pixels resolution. Display is enabled with FullHD, but users mentioned that this handset would look better with QHD. The display bezels took much of the space of the display so the screen to body ratio just got reduced to 69.6% as against 70.9% in case of Z3+. The display is also loaded with 428 PPI. These could deliver a fine and sharp images through their device’s display.The display is equipped with much more brightness than the normal level which comes to be 583 nits and 603 nits in Auto Mode. This probably gives an advantage of having a clear display even in bright sunlight.
Xperia Z5 performs well in case of colour reproduction and maintaining the sharpness. The smart control option manages the backlight and this can prevent the handset from going to sleep mode while you are holding it. Options named X-Reality and Super-Vivid Mode helps in enlarging the images. Glove Mode enables the users to make use of double tap to make your handset live. The display is covered by oleophobic coating and is scratch resistant.
Processor, Memory and Storage
Xperia Z5 is loaded with top of the class processor from Qualcomm. It is loaded with Snapdragon 810 MSM8994. The chipset consists of CPU loaded with Quad-core Cortex A53 with a processing speed of 1.5GHz and Quad-core Cortex A57 with a processing speed of 2GHz. In addition to this graphics is enabled with Adreno 430. This makes the processor to perform smoothly without any flaws. Also the 3GB RAM promises that the handset performs without any lag even when process oriented applications are functioned. The internal storage comes to be 32GB which can be enhanced upto 200GBwith the help of external microSD memory card. This helps you to save storage intensive data, images, files and folders in your handset.
Software and Operating System
The new Xperia Z5 is loaded with Android v5.1.1 Lollipop. Apart from pure Android, the handset is also loaded with company’s own Xperia User Interface based on Android. This is quite appreciable as this helps the handset to receive updates of the OS quite early, when compared to other similar handsets. The handset makers declared that Xperia Z5 will receive Android v6.0 Marshmallow update in the near future. The OS grants you the option of five various panels for your homescreen, from which you are allowed to select one as your primary panel. The notification can be operated as the usual pull down type. Apart from this the users are allowed to set live as well as normal wallpapers, insert new widgets and alter the theme. Google Now is embedded with your Google Account allowing you to get into and control your email, internet activities, daily routines etc.
Performance and Benchmark
With the advanced chipset from Qualcomm, the new Xperia Z5 functions excellently. Even though it is regarded as an update of earlier released Z3+, Xperia Z5 maintains its unique identity even in the midst of all similarities. The price tag also keeps this handset in the band of those flagship handsets like Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, iPhone 6S 16GB, and so on. The performance scores are as follows:
|Samsung Galaxy S6||OnePlus 2||Apple iPhone 6S||Sony Xperia Z5||Sony Xperia Z5 Compact||Sony Xperia Z3+||LG G4|

|Kraken 1.1 (lower is better)||4154||6806||2880||5635||7868||9204||4639|
These performance parameter scores are the indicators of the fact that in almost all these testing parameters, Xperia Z5 performs exceptionally well than last launched Z3+. Also in certain testing scores Xperia Z5 performed much well than Xperia Z5 Compact and in cases surpasses the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Apple iPhone 6S.
Xperia Z5 Camera
The primary camera of Xperia Z5 is loaded with a lens of 23MP. The most reliable camera testing site DxOMark has recently ranked its camera to the top rank surpassing Galaxy S6 Edge, LG G4 and Nexus 6P. The camera is loaded with Exmor RS sensor which facilitates auto-focus within 0.03 seconds. Still images can be captured at a resolution of 5520*4140 pixels, whereas the videos can be captured at 2160 pixels @30fps. The camera also facilitates slow motion recording at 720 pixels @120fps. The camera software of Xperia Z5 is too simple and smooth enough to use. Image stabilization feature prevents minute shakes that used to happen while capturing images as well as recording videos.The default setting of capturing images is set as 8MP while you can opt for 23MP for enhanced image quality and sharpness. The only problem confronted is the issue with Sony camera app that used for recording video. The issue is that, the Superior Auto Mode cannot alter the video resolution for which you have to select Manual Mode. The front cam is loaded with a lens of 5.1MP along with 1080 pixels supporting and also provides for HD recording. Additional features that can be availed are Geo-Tagging, Face Detection, Panorama, HDR and Touch Focus.
Sony placed the Fingerprint scanner along with the volume rockers and the power button of Xperia Z5. On testing it was revealed that the scanner reacted fastly and precisely like that of iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6. You can assign all your finger prints to your profile. You can rely also on PIN or password, even if the scanner fails to identify your fingerprint. The issues with the fingerprint scanner may be highlighted when your fingers are wet. You must keep your hands dry while using fingerprint scanners in the gadget. For the time being it can be used in unlocking your handset. Sony hasn’t integrated the fingerprint authentication with accounts and payments. But this situation can be altered by introduction of Android marshmallow.
When tested the battery capacity of Xperia Z5 proved to be above average when compared to its potential competitors. But when the capacity is considered it reduced to 2900mAh from 3100mAh in Xperia Z3+. Even though it managed to keep the handset live for the day long even after mixed usage. Xperia Z5 along with WiFi connectivity, NFC and Bluetooth managed to score 7189 points. Power saving modes contains STAMINA Mode and Ulta-STAMINA Mode, where you can control the functioning of the battery and enhance its battery. But the importance of these power saving modes will diminish with the introduction of Android Marshmallow and its power saving options like Battery Saver and Doze Mode.
